Pedestrianisation of Oxford Street
In 2017 Matthew formed part of the team which undertook photography for the marketing images for the proposed pedestrianisation of Oxford Street, London. To begin, the elevations on either side of the street were photographer, from Oxford Circus to Bond Street. The team at AVR London used these images to texture and model the half mile stretch. The model was then used to decide upon the views, alongside the client, Transport for London.
Complexities: Many of the views were a couple of storeys high, a drone wasn’t viable due to the close urban environment and the busyness of the street. Instead the images were shot using a large pole which could be slowly raised, the camera was operated using a wireless remote transmitting to a screen. The final images were published widely, including Dezeen, BBC news and ITV news.
World War Mulsim Memorial
Working alongside Benedict O’Looney and the team at AVR London, primarily Rose Wetherell, Matthew undertook site photography for the proposed World War Muslim Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire.
The day we went to shoot started at 5AM, driving north through huge swathes of fog, hoping the arboretum would be in a clear patch. On arrival it turned out to be under a thick blanket of fog! We waited and waited and it eventually cleared, allowing us to capture these peaceful, contemplative images.
In April 2023 the proposals gained permission and were published in the Architects Journal.
